WHO--AND WHAT--IS "ACARF?"
ACARF (Allen County Animal Rescue Facility) is a nonprofit no-kill animal shelter in rural La Harpe, Kansas.
Our shelter was established by a grassroots group of dedicated people who wanted to give vulnerable animals in southeast Kansas the help and hope they did not have before our organization was created. ACARF rescues, rehabilitates, and finds homes for the lost and unwanted dogs and cats of our area.
Although we have small contracts to take in the animals impounded by animal control officers in a few surrounding towns, we also take in many animals who are found or surrendered by the general public. ACARF is not funded by any government entity. The work that we do, saving as many animals as we can, continues through donations by caring, animal-loving people...like you!

SECOND CHANCE IS OPEN AGAIN!!
Our Second Chance store has re-opened, but they currently have reduced hours:
Wednesday 1:30pm-5pm,
Thursday-Friday 10am-5pm, and
Saturday 10am-3pm.
We are excited that our Second Chance angels are back! They will be happy to see your wonderful faces again.

ACARF is back to being open to the public - no appointment needed.
Our hours are 11:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Saturday.
We are still distributing free dog and cat food to those in need while we have an available supply (still by appointment - please call 620-496-3647).
Everyone at ACARF is excited that our dogs and cats once again have people coming out who are interested in adoption. We're so happy to have visitors!!

WE NEED YOUR HELP.
Everyone values the fact that ACARF is a no-kill shelter. They just don’t seem to realize what this means. Besides adoptions, we work endless hours shuffling dogs and cats out of our shelter and into other reputable shelters and rescues in search of homes. To do this costs money. We are CONSTANTLY at peak capacity, which means our expenses are always high. It takes MONEY to run a shelter, and we go in the red every month trying to keep afloat with just the basics: food, vet bills, vaccines, wormer, flea medicines, utilities, and wages to name a few.
We need are as many people as possible to donate on a monthly basis. This would help put us back in the black and allow us to concentrate on the animals, and not worry about keeping our doors open. You can have money drawn directly from your checking account each month. The Bank Withdrawal Authorization Form is on our website, www.acarf.org. You can also donate monthly through PayPal or by mail.
Any way you choose, know that you will have our sincerest gratitude for taking this step to help animals in need in Southeast Kansas. You can feel good knowing you are a part of something worthwhile, something that is making a difference. And we ARE making a difference.
